If you’re looking for a bonsai pot for a conifer, go for unglazed stoneware pots. For deciduous bonsai, as well as those with flowers and fruit, choose glazed pots instead. The choice of colour also depends on the colour of the tree, particularly during the season when it looks its best or when you find it most appealing. Your favourite colour isn’t necessarily the most suitable one for the bonsai you’re planning to repot, so we suggest you refer to the colours of the solar spectrum: if the plant has red flowers, you could choose a green pot (the complementary colour to red); if, on the other hand, it has orange flowers, the pot could be blue. These aren’t set-in-stone rules; the important thing is to prioritise harmony, balance and good taste.
