Acer palmatum kiyohime – Maple – 25 cm
A maple bonsai characterised by a height (excluding the pot) of 19 cm, a trunk diameter of 0.7 cm and a nebari of 2 cm. The plant is grown in an oval glazed stoneware pot measuring 13x11,5xH6 cm.
A shohin bonsai of Acer palmatum kiyohime (maple), a deciduous species, prized for its compact habit and fine branching. The foliage consists of small, delicate leaves that emerge in spring with pale green hues edged in red. In summer, they take on a deeper, more uniform green colour. They transform into spectacular shades of orange and deep red in autumn, and shed their leaves in winter. Cultivated in the Kabudachi (stump-style) form, it features multiple trunks growing from a single nebari, creating a natural and harmonious effect. The oval, blue-glazed stoneware pot contrasts elegantly with the shades of the foliage, enhancing its beauty.
Protect the foliage from the intense summer sun, while exposing it to the sun in autumn to intensify the color of the leaves. In winter, it is best to protect the root system from frost, especially when grown in very shallow pots or with exposed roots.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.
