Acer palmatum kiyohime – Maple – 26 cm
A maple bonsai characterised by a height (excluding the pot) of 20.5 cm, a trunk diameter of 0.7 cm and a nebari of 2 cm. The plant is grown in a round, glazed stoneware pot measuring Ø13xH5,5 cm.
A shohin bonsai of Acer palmatum kiyohime (maple), a deciduous species, prized for its compact habit and fine branching. The foliage consists of small, delicate leaves that emerge in spring in shades of pale green edged with red. In summer, they take on a deeper, more uniform green colour. The foliage transforms into spectacular shades of orange and deep red in autumn, and the tree sheds its leaves in winter. The round, cream-glazed stoneware pot provides a harmonious contrast to the colour and shades of the foliage.
Protect the foliage from the intense summer sun, while exposing it to the sun in autumn to intensify the color of the leaves. In winter, it is best to protect the root system from frost, especially when grown in very shallow pots or with exposed roots.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Repot younger plants annually and more mature plants every 2-3 years, when the buds swell but before the leaves appear. The ideal mixture is 60% akadama + 30% ready-made soil + 10% pozzolana.
