DESCRIPTION

A shohin bonsai of Pinus thunbergii (black pine), an evergreen conifer that is robust and highly prized in the art of bonsai for its rough bark and vigorous needles. The foliage is dense and consists of long, slender, double needles of a brilliant green. It has a dense trunk with mature, rough bark, which cracks as it ages, becoming increasingly interesting. The well-formed base conveys strength and balance in this magnificent specimen. The compact and well-distributed branching enhances the line of the trunk. Cultivated in a round, unglazed terracotta pot, it highlights the movement of the trunk and the balance of the crown, without distracting attention from the bonsai itself.

Location

Grow bonsai outdoors all year round in a well-ventilated area, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months.

Watering

Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Repotting

Repot young specimens about every 3 years, and more mature ones every 5-7 years. The best time to do this is between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, when the buds are swollen but the needles have not yet opened.
