Millettia bonsai (red wisteria), a flowering plant that is either deciduous or semi-evergreen depending on the climate in which it is grown. It is prized for its extraordinary summer flowering (from July to September), during which the plant produces clusters of fragrant flowers in deep purple, burgundy or magenta, followed in autumn by elongated pod-shaped fruits. During spring and summer, it is adorned with a dense, compact canopy of bright green compound leaves. In autumn, the leaves turn warm golden hues before falling completely as the plant enters its winter dormancy. Cultivated in an oval, blue-glazed stoneware pot, it enhances the bonsai by creating a perfect colour contrast with the green of the leaves and the purple of the flowers.
